Speaking to people who you have never met before. I have found that speaking to people new can turn your own thoughts around. It will change your perspective. For me, talking to a person from a different place in the world can be amazing. It let's you discover the ends of the world's possibilities.
Possibilities also arise when you speak to others. Many opportunities and new ideas can be formed, and even new understanding. You come to understand yourself more and others. For example, in my sociology class, we had some Muslim women come in, and they spoke to us about the misconceptions American's have of their culture. You still have to be careful of people around the world, but you can at least try to see past the biased news media.
Aside from that class, I live in a dorm on my campus with a young woman who is African. She is a sweet young lady, and I have never really learned about their culture. I have met some of her friends, and they are really nice. Talking to them makes me see things in a way I have never seen before, because they have grown up in a new culture.
In college, we become exposed to so many different people. The whole world comes together under one roof, different upbringings come together in the classroom to debate and discuss issues, and all are here for one thing: education.
